BALLOT BLOCK SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008
The fruit for this wine comes from a small parcel in the Brancott Valley area of Marlborough. Owned and run by Doug and Marg Holmes, both dedicated organic viticulturalists who live on site, this vineyard is their passion.
The vineyard is slightly elevated and has a combination of soils with gravel and stone overlaying clay. Located in the Brancott on the southern side of the Wairau Valley this vineyard is slightly cooler than most in the region and also has lower rainfall, meaning the fruit ripens both slowly and cleanly.
The fruit was hand picked then run over our sorting table prior to being whole-cluster pressed. The juice ran directly to French barriques for indigenous yeast fermentation. After fermentation the wine was stirred regularly to give extra body and complexity and to naturally soften the palate. After ten months resting in barriques the wine was gently racked for blending and lightly fined prior to bottling.
